About CBD

About CBD

Research on the potential medical uses of cannabis constituents has been limited to THC in recent decades. However, in recent years, there has been increasing interest in other cannabinoids, particularly CBD.

Most of the evidence on the effects of CBD comes from animal studies. Experiments on rats have shown that it relieves pain from nerve injuries and alleviates various types of inflammation. CBD also affects the nervous system. It has effects on epileptic seizures, prevents nausea, and kills cancer cells from breast cancer, prostate cancer, brain cancer, and other types of cancer. It also has anti-inflammatory effects, prevents the accumulation of prion proteins in prion-infected cells and can prevent mad cow disease. It also has antibacterial activity against dangerous bacteria with high antibiotic resistance. It has also been shown to reduce the risk of developing diabetes in animal studies.

There is little clinically proven research to suggest the potential therapeutic use of CBD in the treatment of a variety of diseases and symptoms. Current evidence does not necessarily reflect the therapeutic potential for the conditions under investigation. However, it is also possible that CBD has not been used in the treatment of these conditions and therefore no studies have yet been conducted. For example, there are people who suffer from hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder who have found relief from CBD, even though researchers have not scientifically proven the benefits of CBD.

In the Netherlands, researchers tested different cannabis strains available in medical dispensaries in a study of 102 people. The results showed that the pharmacological effects varied depending on the amount of THC and CBD. This was confirmed by interviews with patients. The Dutch researchers suspect that the reason behind the different effects is that CBD affects some well-known subjective undesirable effects of THC, such as anxiety and depressive mood.
