Reducing aggression with CBD oil

Reducing aggression with CBD oil

Aggression is more common in humans than we think (someone gets in our way, "gets in our way", doesn't listen to what we have to say, etc...). The exact neurological causes of aggression are less well understood. The drugs that can be used to treat it are known and effective.

Sao Paulo (Brazil) Brazilian researchers have conducted their own study to see if CBD can be an alternative to traditional drug therapy and reduce aggression.

Numerous studies report positive effects of CBD on the human body in a number of different cases.

An isolation aggression study.
Professor Francisco Silveira Guimarães and colleagues at the University of São Paulo's Ribeirao Preto Medical School conducted the so-called isolation test, based on standard tests on mice. This test consists of isolating a mouse from its peers and placing it in a separate cage. After several days, another mouse, a former companion, was placed in the same cage in which the first mouse was isolated, and the isolated mouse behaved aggressively towards the new (former companion) intruder mouse.

CBD may reduce aggression.

In the study, the researchers isolated several mice. Each mouse in the isolation experiment was given a different - different amount of CBD and tested for effects. Compared to the control group, the study clearly found that cannabidiol (CBD) can inhibit aggression. ("Our study showed that cannabidiol can inhibit aggression," said Guimarães.)

To determine exactly how CBD reduces aggression, researchers injected a total of four groups of six to eight male mice with different doses of CBD. Another fifth group served as a control group and did not receive CBD injections. In their evaluation, Guimarães and colleagues write that the control group that did not receive CBD injections showed the expected classic aggressive behaviour towards their peers. However, mice that received different doses of CBD behaved less violently and attacked new intruders less often.

For example, the group that received the lowest dose of CBD attacked the intruders after only four minutes. The number of attacks was also reduced by 50 percent.
The second test group was given a higher dose of CBD and showed isolated aggressive behaviour only after eleven minutes.
The third group (receiving double the amount of CBD of the second group) and the fourth group (receiving double the amount of CBD of the third group) also showed reduced aggressive behaviour, but again more than the second test group, which was the least aggressive.

Success depends on correct CBD dosing

As the researchers explain in their study, the results are consistent with current research on the use of CBD as an antidepressant, in which very high doses have had little effect. This suggests that proper dosing of CBD is crucial to the success of treatment.

The exact setting has to do with the mode of action of CBD and the interactions between the brain and the endocannabinoid system (ECS). As Guimarães explains, CBD reduces aggression by facilitating the activation of two important receptors. However, science does not yet know exactly how these two receptors work in this case and how they affect aggression.
